Location
  • Distance to nearest Town: 11.5 miles
  • Just inside the Welsh border, Homefield is but 200 ms from the centre of Grosmont, a quiet historic conservation village with a 12th century castle, one of three close by. In the village centre is the church which has an important large Medieval nave, a pub/restaurant, and general shop/Post Office. Set on the side of the River Monnow Valley, close to the Wye Valley, Vale of Usk and the Brecon Beacons. Our location is equidistant from Hereford, the city whose cathedral holds the Mappa Mundi and the Chained Library, Abergavenny the market town and Gateway to Wales and the historic county town of Monmouth with its covered bridge. From the patio and garden there are views of the castle, Garway Hill in England with history of the Knights Templar and of Ysgyryd Fawr, the Skirrid or holy mountain in Wales. The Abbeys of Tintern, Llantony and Dore are all close by, as are Ross-on Wye, Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean, Hay-on-Wye the book town and the Mon-Brecon canal.

Review

My family and parents spent a week at Homefield, Grosmont this summer and had a wonderful time. My stepfather is disabled and we chose Homefield as it is accessible. My parents bedroom had an electric bed, accessible toilet/bathroom and access directly onto the garden. The accommodation is homely, clean and spacious. The garden is delightful and we would admire it daily often dining outside. Lynn the owner is very friendly and helpful. We were welcomed by her home baked bread and welshcakes, they were delicious! There is a local shop and pub close by that we frequented and a wonderful ruins called Grosmont Castle that our kids loved (free to get in!). I thoroughly recommend this bungalow! We have booked two week ther next summer as we enjoyed it so much!
