Having worked as an Occupational Therapist for many years I am somewhat aware of the difficulties in finding suitable accommodation in what ever country for those with physical impairment i.e. reduced mobility.
In summer 2006 I was asked to visit with some friends in the south of France (near Carcassonne) and went to have an evening meal with some new acquaintances of theirs at a lovely farmhouse set in a valley and found the most tranquil, charming and amazingly accessible old French farmhouse which was just finishing its restoration.
It was just about sunset when we finished eating and the view was delightful with the backdrop of the setting red orange, sun still warming our backs – The property is over 300 hundred years old and has a characterful roof with 4 ginoise which apparently denotes a building of some importance from the time period. With her near metre thick refurbished sandstone walls and impressive beams and surrounded and sheltered by gently rolling hills - this little undiscovered place is just divine - Notwithstanding a monastery almost next door in rural French terms, where apparently they sing 90% of the mass set in the Byzantine tradition.
There is a pretty little Etang (lake), with fish and a frog chorus that even Kermit of the Muppets fame would be proud of. A fully wheelchair accessible swimming pool complete with electric hoist and nearby the chatter of chickens and adorable ducks giving fresh farm eggs every day. Added to this there is the availability (depending on demand), of fresh vegetables and fruit without the use of any growth stimulant or pesticide.
