4 stars = A WEEK AT HAUS RHEINSBERG

In September 2006 I made my second visit to Haus Rheinsberg, staying for a week with a group from Harpenden, 9 of us in wheelchairs. We stayed in their new apartments, but ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel dining room because the food there is excellent. Situated just a few metres from the lakeside, and with no passing traffic, the hotel is perfect for wheelchairs (you can bring your own, or arrange to hire one when you get there) with large bedrooms and bathrooms, and wide corridors. If you don’t want to try speaking German, then many of the staff speak good English! Rheinsberg is a small town – 25 shops, a couple of hotels and plenty of bars and restaurants, but its pride is the Schloss which we visited fairly easily in a wheelchair. We also went to Templin, Potsdam and Berlin. Stephen Morrill. 01923 263182 10/10/06

This was our first visit to a "barrier free" hotel. We stayed in one of the apartments attached to the hotel. The apartment was great - automatic doors, elevator - loads of room inside with huge fully-equipped bathroom. Beds were very comfortable and completely adjustable. The hotel itself is definitely 4* quality. There are loads of facilities - swimming pool with electric hoist, games room, sportshall, good quality restaurant (buffet table at lowered height and loads of room around the tables). Cocktail bar - popular place in evenings. The hotel offers a number of excursions - all are geared to wheelchair users, so you always have a choice of activities - we went on a 2 hour cruise on a "Rolly" boat - fully equpped roll-on, roll-off with wheelchair accessible toilet. We were also on a horse drawn tour - excellent and well worth the money. The thing that makes this place though is the staff. They may not all be brilliant at English, but they are the most helpful bunch I have ever met in a hotel - and we have stayed in a few! Good example - when they found out we were going on the cruise, they sent one of their English speaking employees along to translate the skipper's commentary. They were also great with our 2 young kids. All in all a really positive experience - we would recommend it highly to anyone.

Very comfortable hotel with excellent disabled facilities. Plenty of room around beds and in bathrooms to manouevre wheelchairs and hoists. Very good accessiblity throughout the hotel, and very good facilities such as the pool, sauna, steam room, skittles, badminton etc. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. There are also excursions in adapted boats, horse and carriage ride and minibus to various cities nearby. Good wheelchair accessible walks and cafes nearby too.

From reading about the Hotel on Accessatlast, gave inspiration, to us both to go & see it. As it told us of , suitability for disabled people , including what the area, had to offer. The accomodation was 1st class, the food excellent. My partner had her Birthday there, & was overwelmed by the way the Hotel acknowledged it, with complimentry champagne, & a beautifully decorated dinning table. And greetings from staff & guests. Definitely a place to return to .
