Cougar - Manual and Powered Wheelchair Handbike
The Cougar has a 7 speed Freewheel mounted on to the side of the motor. It can be operated with or without power assistance. It is possible to instantly switch from manual to power assist without interruption of cycle rotation.
Range:
The Cougar allows a range of action approx 10 miles on power alone. This means increased mobility with little effort. The range achieved by a single battery charge depends on various factors. These the condition of the battery, the road conditions and particularly the cyclist's own effort. A 7-gear free wheel is integrated into the system. You shift gears by turning the right twist-grip on the handlebars through positions 1 to 7.
Powered Hub:
The Cougar is powered by the Heinzmann™ electronic hub which is renowned for its reliability and ruggedness.
All Heinzmann motors are built to the same basic plan. The motor is spoked directly into the rim, and can be fitted to any size from 16" to 28". The motor is 36V, 200W, 43Nm.
Pack and Controller:
The Heinzmann Power Pack contains;
NiCad batteries
battery monitor
electronic controller
30 D-size genuine Sanyo Cadnica nickel-cadmium cells
Battery Meter:
The Heinzmann battery meter is very sophisticated. It achieves a high level of accuracy by measuring the ampage throughput of the pack and compensates for temperature.
Controller:
A pulse-width controller, controlled by the throttle on the handlebar. The throttle has an on/off switch and light, and there's a key switch on the Power Pack.
The controller also has safety features to protect you and other parts of the system: it monitors the temperature of the motor at all times, and it monitors every cell in the pack - if anything goes wrong (very rare!) it cuts out to protect you and everything else.
Cables and Connectors:
To stand up to years of use in all weathers, we only use the toughest cables and connectors available.
Charger:
Designed to work closely with the Power Pack, it is a microprocessor-controlled "smart" charger which monitors the pack's temperature, current and voltage to charge the pack in two hours.
Because it is a switched-mode charger, it doesn't't have a heavy transformer and is easier to carry with you.
Docking System:
The Cougar cycle can be connected to most rigid wheelchairs via a docking system that is permanently mounted under the wheelchair. It is lightweight, and adds approximately one kilogram to the weight of the chair. Once connected it takes only seconds to dock on.
The rear of the docking system is bolted to either the back axle or a bar going across the back of the chair. The front is bolted to the bar underneath the front of the seat. Some chairs do not have this bar, Kuschall for example. In this case we tailor a bar to the chair, which is then bolted on using the existing holes.
